Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that he is in favour of appointing a capable person to the vacant post of Governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) based on merit rather than personal connection.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Former Planners Forum, Nepal on Thursday, Prime Minister Oli said, ‘I don’t have anyone (close to me) to bring to the Rastra Bank as Governor. We should bring capable people based on meritocracy. If there are people who can work, it will be fine for the country. I don’t want anyone to call me ‘my person’. I am the Prime Minister, but I am not alone in the government. Therefore, I prioritise meritocracy as far as possible.’

PM Oli, on the occasion, clarified that capable individuals have been appointed to the Chairperson and members of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Inquiry on Disappeared Persons based on the report received from the recommendation committee.

He made it clear that apart from the chairman of a commission whom he knew as the chief secretary, he had no personal acquaintance or relationship with any other officials.

PM Oli expressed the wish for an exchange of ideas and experiences from the former planners’ organization, hoping for its sustainability by becoming free from personality clashes.
