Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, said the government has not interfered with press freedom.
At a program organised on the occasion of the silver jubilee of Yugaahwan National Daily on Tuesday, Minister Gurung argued that some sections of society have misinterpreted the Social Media Regulation Bill. Stating that anarchy and disorder increased in the country in the name of press freedom, he stressed that the incumbent government is actively controlling it.
Minister Gurung said, ‘ It is necessary to regulate it and we are in preparation to make the Mass Communication Bill.’ He stressed that any media should not carry out activities that foil the social and racial harmony, adding Social Media Regulation Bill would be passed soon.
Likewise, Minister Gurung said that cybercrime increased due to online, and mentioned that more than 40,000 cybercrime related cases have been registered. He said No one is exempted from spreading illusion in the society in the name of using social media and freedom of expression.
