Supreme Court resumes hearings on controversial appointments to constitutional bodies

Kathmandu: With Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut’s foreign visit now concluded, hearings on the constitutional dispute regarding appointments to constitutional commissions have resumed in the Constitutional Bench starting Sunday.

The hearings began on Sunday in the Constitutional Bench comprising five justices, including the Chief Justice. The bench had been unable to convene since April 22 (10 Baisakh) due to the Chief Justice’s overseas visit.

This dispute, which was prioritized by the bench since February 13 (30 Magh), had been heard daily from April 19 to April 22 (7 to 10 Baisakh). Normally convening on Wednesdays and Fridays, the Constitutional Bench had been meeting daily specifically for this case.

The petitioners who filed the 15 writs against the appointments have already completed their arguments, and now lawyers representing the opposition are presenting their rebuttals.
