Kathmandu: Electricity has been restored in Amritsar, located in the India-Pakistan border region, but a red alert is still in place.
According to the BBC, loud sirens were heard in Amritsar last night. Following this, government officials issued an advisory early Sunday morning.
Although a ceasefire between the two countries came into effect on Saturday evening, the Indian side has accused Pakistan of violating it. Government officials have reported hearing explosions and ongoing shelling in Amritsar and surrounding areas.
Late at night, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held a press conference and stated that Pakistan had violated the ceasefire and that India would respond to it.
On Sunday morning, government officials urged the public not to go outside, to stay indoors, and to keep away from windows.

“When the situation is completely safe, a green signal will be issued by the administration. Please do not panic, remain calm, and follow all instructions from the authorities,” the advisory stated.
A ceasefire agreement was reached between India and Pakistan on the evening of May 10.
There had been ongoing clashes between the two countries over the past few days. Both the Indian and Pakistani armies have claimed to have repelled each other’s attacks.
