Kathmandu: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said the Armed Police Force Nepal (APF Nepal) is becoming competent in rescue during disasters and in border security.
During his address to the convocation ceremony of those graduating in the High Altitude Search and Rescue training conducted by the APF Mountain Rescue Training School in Manang on Friday, Minister Lekhak said the APF’s engagements during the disasters have continued the citizens’ trust in the security agency from home and abroad.
The roles of APF when the citizens were facing border security issues and were hit by disasters are praiseworthy, and such contributions have made the APF a reliable support for the citizens. As he said, the training focused on high-altitude rescue in Manang, a significant tourist site, would be beneficial for the locals and potential tourists.
Minister Lekhak said the training is expected to be instrumental in making the journey of tourists arriving for the Annapurna Conservation Circuit Trek safe. Minister Lekhak described the area as a contributor to the national economy through the means of tourism and stressed the need to make it further safe for tourists.
APF Inspector General Raju Aryal said the training will help make the rescue in high altitudes more efficient and effective. He underlined the need to give priority to the high-altitude rescue efforts.
A total of 45 APF personnel have completed the training. Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ramnath Adhikari, and House of Representatives (HoR) member Tek Bahadur Gurung were among those present to witness the convocation.
