Nepal Teachers’ Federation coins 9-point agreement with government a significant achievement

Kathmandu: The Nepal Teachers’ Federation has called the nine-point agreement reached with the government a significant achievement.

Issuing a statement, the Federation’s national Chairperson, Laxmikishor Subedi, said that the 29-day-long protest centered in Kathmandu had succeeded. On Wednesday, a nine-point agreement was reached between the government and the Teachers’ Federation.  He stated that a written commitment has been secured to enact the Education Act, expressing the belief that it will now be issued.

According to the Federation, the movement has resolved long-pending issues of equal grading and salary.

The agreement also addresses issues such as the accumulated sick leave of temporary teachers, access to treatment at Civil Hospital equivalent to that of civil servants, hardship allowances for all teachers, and matters related to official ranking (protocol).

Additionally, Subedi mentioned partial success regarding the pension issue of teachers who became permanent after the 2075 BS (2018 AD). He said that efforts will continue to amend the Pension Fund Act 2075 in conjunction with the enactment of the Education Act.
