Kathmandu: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has urged migrant Nepalis to support in achieving speedy economic prosperity by utilising skills learned in a foreign land and investing capital in the country.

Addressing an interaction on ‘Nepali Diasporas: Government’s Responsibility and Role of People’s Liaison Committees’ organised by the Overseas Nepali People’s Liaison Committee Coordination Department of the Nepali Congress at the party office, Sanepa, on Thursday.

NC President Deuba mentioned that the NC was actively working to create an environment in all provincial bodies that meets the aspirations of the migrant Nepalis and involves capable individuals. Those staying out of the country are thinking of the welfare of the nation and people. We have made efforts to incorporate them in the party’s general convention and Maha Samiti. We will take initiatives for their representation in the central committee through the general convention, even by making changes in the party’s statute,’ said Deuba.

President Deuba said that the strong support and cooperation of the overseas migrant Nepalis were necessary to strengthen the democratic republic in the country.  NC Vice President Dhan Raj Gurung expressed the belief that such types of interactions and discussions would help carry out activities to resolve problems.

He said  Nepalis staying in a foreign land have been facing problems due to delays in general work, including visa renewal and labour permits. He stressed the need to establish a desk at the party headquarters for facilitation. He urged the participants to provide suggestions to the party, focusing their discussion on the issue of creating an investment-friendly environment to work easily in Nepal by resolving problems faced by Non-Resident Nepalis.

Likewise, former Vice-President of the NC, Gopal Man Shrestha, shared that the party should play a significant role in the government and parliament for the welfare of all Nepali migrant workers, preparing people’s votes in favour of the party.

Deuba said it was necessary to hold interactions continuously to make the role of the people’s liaison committee effective. Former general-secretary Bimalendra Nidhi pointed out the need to play a role in creating people’s vote and for economic prosperity in the federal democratic republic system by connecting Nepalis around the world.

Former general secretary of the party, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, emphasised that the party should stress making effective laws for the policy-level arrangement in favour of migrant Nepalis.

Department Chief Kiran Raj Poudel shared that there are 37 people’s Liaison Committees in 20 foreign countries, and a target has been set to form such committees in more than 40 countries.
