Talk between Government and Nepal Teachers’ Association concludes

Kathmandu: The talks between the government and the Nepal Teachers’ Federation, held at the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, have concluded.

The Education Ministry did not immediately disclose the agreements made during the talks. ‘Today’s talks have ended. The matters discussed will be reviewed internally and made public only tomorrow,’ said a member of the Ministry of Education’s secretariat.

Representing the Nepal Teachers’ Federation in the talks was a team led by Vice-Chairperson Nanumaya Parajuli, while the government side was represented by a team including Education Minister Bidya Bhattarai.

The Federation has been conducting a Kathmandu-centric protest since Chaitra 20 (April 2). Stating that they would continue dialogue, negotiation, and protest simultaneously, they staged a demonstration on Thursday by occupying the road from Maitighar to Bijulibazar Bridge.

While teachers had previously been demonstrating by occupying only the main lane, today, they attempted to occupy all three lanes, which led to scuffles with the police.
