98 dead after night club’s roof collapsed in Santo Domingo

Kathmandu: Around 98 people have died and more than 150 injured, after roof collapsed at nightclub in the Dominican Republic’s Santo Domingo.

According to BBC, a provincial governor and former Major League Baseball pitcher  Octavio Dotel were among the deceased. He died on the way to the hospital after being pulled from the debris.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning during a concert by popular merengue singer Rubby Perez at the Jet Set nightclub.

BBC cited director of the Emergency Operations Centre (COE) Juan Manuel Mendez as saying that he was hopeful that many of those buried under the collapsed roof were still alive.

Likewise, Jet Set is a popular nightclub in Santo Domingo, which regularly hosts dance music concerts on Monday evenings, where politicians, athletes and other prominent fugures attened it.
