Kathmandu: The death toll following the devastating earthquake in Myanmar has crossed one thousand.
According to Aljazeera, around 1 thousand 644 people have now been confirmed dead. The AFP news agency said that more than 3,400 people were injured, while at least 139 people are still missing after the earthquake.
The 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar has been recorded as the biggest earthquake to hit the nation in decades.
There are also chances of increasing the death toll. Poorly equipped rescuers are still searching for survivors as calls for international assistance grow.
The BBC cited some locals as saying they are using bare hands to rescue people from under the rubble.
Several nations are rapidly extending hands for. After the military administration, under Western sanctions, made an appeal for aids.
The UN has warned of a possible shortage of medical supplies in Myanmar.
Rescue efforts also continue in the neighbouring country, Thailand. After the collapse of an under-construction building in Bangkok, dozens of people are believed to be missing.
