NASA’s “stranded” astronauts Wilmore and William returned to Earth after  288 days

Kathmandu: NASA’s “stranded” astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita ‘Suni’Willams have returned to the Earth after 288 days.

According to the BBC, the Space-X capsule, carrying two other astronauts, Nick Hague cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov splashed down off the coast of Florida coast on Wednesday.

With the return of the astronauts after 288 days, Wilmore and Williams have become the longest-serving NASA astronauts in space on a single mission as per Aljazeera.

A pod of dolphins encircled the capsule before it splashed down gently with the help of parachutes A recovery ship brought the capsule out of the water. Astronauts, including Wilmore and Williams, smiled and waved to the people after breathing the fresh air.

The spacecraft took 17 hours to reach the ground from the space station. NASA’s Commercial Crew Program Manager Steve Stich praised the crew and briefed them about the improving health conditions of the crew members.

Wilmore and Williams went to the International Space Station (ISS), through star liner test craft, on June 5, 2024. They were supposed to return in 8 days. However, due to technical problems in the spacecraft, they could not return to the earth for 9 months.
