Janardan Sharma: Monarchy will not return but abolish monarchy within political parties

Kathmandu: CPN (Maoist Center) lawmaker Janardan Sharma has said monarchy will not return but internal monarchy within political parties must be abolished.

Speaking during a special session in Parliament, lawmaker Sharma emphasized the need to eliminate the growing authoritarian tendencies within political parties.

‘I am not afraid of monarchy making a comeback, but I do fear whether we can correct our weaknesses and move forward or not,’ he said.

Highlighting that the only alternative to democracy is an advanced form of democracy, Sharma urged political parties to focus on rectifying their shortcomings. ‘A sense of frustration has emerged because we have failed to move forward in alignment with the thinking of the new generation and our national needs. We must overcome this frustration,’ he added.

Sharma stressed that delays in addressing the people’s concerns would be costly for political parties. ‘After drafting the constitution, we should have been fully committed to its implementation and economic development. But, political leaders got busy abusing each other and in the tug and war of power. The democratic system and exercise suffered also due to the forming of an unnatural coalition by becoming an opportunist,’ he said.
