Kathmandu: The obstructed road, due to a sinkhole which was caused due to the bursting of Melamchi Drinking Water’s pipe at Thapathali, has come into operation even after 5 hours.

The vehicular movement was affected till 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, due to the sinkhole. There was a sinkhole on the road towards Norvic Hospital from Thapathali Chowk at around 5:00 a.m.

As the pipe burst, water flowed out with great force, causing the road to collapse and damaging the sidewalk. Shops, restaurants, medicine shops, and fruit shops around Thapathali Chowk, were flooded. But now, the flooded area has been cleaned up.

However, the reason behind the pipeline burst is still unknown. It is said that major damage was prevented as Kathmandu Upatayaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) employees closed the gate valve as soon as they were informed about the pipeline burst.

Earlier, there was also a burst of the main pipe of Melamchi Drinking Water at Babarmahal on February 12 (Magh 30).
