Kathmandu: The bursting of the Melamchi Drinking Water Project’s pipe has affected the daily lives of people in Thapathali. The burst pipe has blocked the road, affecting both vehicle and pedestrian movement.
As the pipe burst, water flowed out with great force, causing the road to collapse and damaging the sidewalk. A large void has been formed on the road, and mud and stone debris can be seen scattered across the street.

Water entered the shops around Thapathali Chowk, on the road leading to Norvic International Hospital. Restaurants, medicine shops, and fruit shops in the area have been flooded. The flooding has affected ground-floor shops and restaurants, which have been submerged.
The pipe burst occurred around 5 AM today (Tuesday) in Thapathali. The exact cause of the pipe burst is yet to be determined.
However, as soon as the rupture was detected, employees from Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) closed the gate valve, preventing significant damage.
Previously, on Magh 30, the main water pipe burst in the Babermahal area, causing a flood. Several government offices and the surrounding area, including the forest office, were flooded.
