Kathmandu: An earthquake has struck Sindhupalchok.

The earthquake struck at 2:51 AM on Thursday, with its epicenter in Bhairavkund, Sindhupalchok.

The National Earthquake Monitoring & Research Center reported that the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.1 and occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers beneath the surface.

The tremors of an earthquake centered in Sindhupalchok were also felt in the Indian states of Bihar and West Bengal.

According to a report by BBC Hindi, the tremors were experienced in the northern regions of Bihar and West Bengal as well.

Many people in Siliguri reported feeling the earthquake. However, there have been no reports of damage in India.

In the panic following the earthquake, a prisoner in the district jail was injured while trying to flee and fell. Sindhupalchok’s Assistant Chief District Officer, Ganesh Nepali, informed Nepal Views that the injured prisoner is currently receiving treatment at the district hospital.

Additionally, the walls of the police post in Kodari developed cracks due to the earthquake.

Similarly, a landslide occurred in Dugunagadhi, located in Ward No. 3 of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality.

Strong tremors were felt in Kathmandu and across Bagmati and Koshi provinces, prompting residents to rush outside.

The earthquake was also experienced in Pokhara and Palpa in western Nepal, as reported by local representatives.
