Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel has inaugurated the 2152nd Gyalpo Lhosar festival celebrations. The Gyalpo Lhosar is the New Year of the Himalayan Indigenous Sherpa Community.
President Paudel inaugurated the Gyalpo Lhosar festival by cutting Phemar (a dish of the Sherpa community) amidst a program organized at Sheetal Niwas on Thursday.
On the occasion, he expressed the belief that festivals like Gyalpo Lhosar would contribute to further strengthen national unity by fostering mutual harmony and tolerance among all Nepalis of different ethnicities, languages, cultures and rituals.
President Paudel mentioned that Nepal is rich in different castes, languages, cultures and religions, and each ethnic group has different festivals with their own characteristics. He said that Sherpa community has its own uniqueness, he said Sherpa and Himalayan Indigenous communities have played remarkable role to strengthen the country economically through tourism and their own business giving continuity, protection and promotion to language, religion, art, culture and tradition of the Himalayan region.
