Kathmandu: Devotees have gathered at Pashupatinath Temple to pay homage to Lord Shiva on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri.

As the 4 doors of Pashupati open at 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, devotees throng to offer worship to Lord Shiva.

The general public leaders thronged to pay homage to Mahadev. Nepali Congress leader Arjun Nar Singh KC was one of the political leaders to pay homage.

Likewise, people of every age group from children to old are also seen in Pashupati premises.

The Maha Shivaratri festival is named after the night in which Lord Shiva was born. The day is celebrated at various Shiva temples across the country.

More than 1 million pilgrims might have visited Pashupatinath, only on the occasion of Maha Shivratri. Around  5000 security personnel have been mobilized for the security at Pashupati premises.
