Prakriti’s Suspicious Death: Case filed against accused student and 2 guards

Kathmandu: Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the suspicious death of Prakriti Lamsal, a student studying at a university in Odisha, India.

One person has been arrested on charges of abetment to suicide, while two security guards for assaulting a Nepali student.

Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year computer science student at KIIT University, passed away on Sunday. Following the incident, Nepali students protested, demanding a fair investigation into the matter.

During the protests, security guards of the university assaulted the students. As a result, a case has been registered at the local Infocity police station.

According to a press release issued by the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate, two security guards, Ramkanth Nayak (45 years old) and Jogendra Behera (50), were arrested.

According to the police, Prakriti’s brother, Siddhanta Sigdel, filed a complaint at the Infocity police station, leading to the arrest of 21-year-old Adhvik Srivastava. The case was registered on February 16, and the arrest took place the same day based on the complaint.

Under the Indian Penal Code’s new provisions, Srivastava has been arrested for abetment to suicide and is currently in judicial custody. The police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and relevant documents and electronic materials have been seized.

The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack police administration stated that a fair and just investigation is underway into both cases, and the situation is returning to normal. The university administration has also called back the students, and the situation is now improving, according to the statement.

The police administration has committed to ensuring the safety of Nepali students, urging all students to contact the 24-hour helpline number 8280338301 for any security-related concerns.
