MCC projects suspended in Nepal

Kathmandu: Projects under the U.S. Aid Agency Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) have been temporarily suspended in Nepal. According to the Ministry of Finance, Nepal was officially informed about this on February 14, 2025.

An agreement for project implementation was signed between the Government of Nepal and MCC on September 14, 2017.

However, the ministry stated that the projects have been halted for 90 days due to an executive order issued by U.S. President Donald Trump on January 20, 2025.

As per the MCC agreement, either party can terminate the agreement by giving a 90-day notice. However, the U.S. has sent a suspension letter, effectively putting the agreement on hold with immediate effect.
