Elderly dies in fire in Dolpa

Kathmandu: An elderly has died in the Dolpa district when a fire erupted in a house.

According to the police,  Badi Sarki (75) of Mudkechula rural municipality ward no 4 lost her life to the fire while she was sleeping near the traditional firewood stove.

Ward chairperson Kriti Bahadur Buda said the elderly, physically frail due to old age, could not escape to safety when her blanket caught fire.

He said while the fire reduced her two-storey thatched roof house to ashes, residents, security personnel and people’s representatives rescued the cattle in the shed to a safer place.

The incident took place when the elderly’s daughter and son-in-law had been to their farmland. Buda said Police is collecting the details of the damage while an investigation team from the District Police Office, Dolpa was on the way to the accident site.
