Kavre Bhanjyang Fire: Death of wife; Husband injured

Kathmandu: A fire broke out at Shyamsundar Furniture and Wood Industry located in Kavre Bhanjyang, Dhulikhel Municipality-9, Kavrepalanchok, burning down two other houses and claiming the life of a woman.

According to the District Police Office, Dhulikhel, the fire started at 9:30 PM on Friday due to an electrical short circuit in the industry.

Seventy-year-old Tika Devi Dangol, a worker in the industry and a resident of Shankharapur Municipality-1, Nanglebhare, Kathmandu, died in the fire. Her husband, Toyanath Dangol, who sustained injuries in the fire, is currently undergoing treatment at Dhulikhel Hospital.

The fire, which began in the industry, also burned down a nearby temporary house belonging to Krishna BK and a tin-roofed hut owned by Dhruv Bahadur BK.

The fire was brought under control at around 1:45 AM with the help of five fire engines, the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and residents, according to District Police Chief Superintendent of Police Basundhara Khadka.

Preliminary estimates suggest that the fire caused damages worth 8 million rupees to the industry and 1 million rupees to the two houses. The police reported that the deceased’s body had been taken to Dhulikhel Hospital for post-mortem examination.
