Kathmandu: The staging of the play ‘Mukkumlung’, which reflects the cultural heritage and history of the Yakthung (Limbu), is going on at Mandala Theatre, Thapagaun.

Yakthung community has been worshipping ‘Mukkumlung’ i.e. Chot-Lung (sacred cave) the heritage of the Kirat’s ancient civilization and tradition, as their cultural symbol.

Mukkumlung attempts to depict the early human civilization of the Kirat, the relationship the Yakthung community with nature, and the struggle they faced via the Limbu phrase Mujingna Kheyangna; meaning “our land, our water.”

Likewise, the play revolves around how modernity put Mukkumlung into an existential crisis and the efforts made for preservation.

Kirat has been considering the ‘Mukkumlung’ (currently Pathibhara) as a symbol of their civilization.

Bishnu Moktan, Bedana Rai, Suraj Tamu, Pratina Rai, Manhang Lawatti, Shobha Limbu, Saujan Senehang, Mani K Rai,  Bhumika Tharu, Pawan Kumar Gole, Ajaya Lama, David Subedi, Samjita Thulung Rai, Sampada Rai, Ramita Rai, Prabin Magar, Anjana Rai, Numa Rai, Amar Babu Budhathoki, Akash Suhang Limbu and Isha Sinjali are actors of the play.

Gilu Ratosh, Anil Subba and Bishnu Moktan are the writers of ‘Mukkumlung’. The concept and direction credit for the play goes to Anil Subba.

The play, presented by Chulachuli Rangamanch in collaboration with Ek Theater Nepal, had a special show staged on Thursday, the 16th of January (3rd of Magh).

The play will be staged every day at 5:00 p.m. except Monday. There is also an additional show on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.  The play will conclude on February 9 (Magh 27).
