Kathmandu: The Gurung Community is celebrating Tamu Lhosar on a grand scale. There is a tradition of the Gurung Community to celebrate Tamu Lhosar to welcome the new year.

The meaning of the word ‘Lho’ is year and ‘Shar’ means change. And the day when the year changes is known as ‘Tamu Lhosar.’ This day is celebrated on Poush 15.

It is believed that Poush 15 is the longest night of the year and after this day the night gradually decreases. This festival holds a special place in the case of the Gurung community.

Even the Gurung Community in Kathmandu is celebrating the festival in a grandeur way in Tundikhel.
