Kathmandu: National Assembly chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal urged the young generation to nation-building by taking pride in our motherland.
Observing the ‘Sanibare Haat’ (farmer’s market) organized by Raithane Agro Products Nepal at Durbarmarg, Kathmandu, NA Chairperson Dahal emphasized the optimal use and consumption of local produce and resources. Highlighting the importance of labor, he pressed for bucking the brain drain among youths in the country.
Expressing his concern over the arable lands turning into barren land due to the increasing exodus of youths, he lamented Nepal’s dependency on other countries for food items.
Thus, he underscored increasing production and consumption of locally produced goods. The Raithane Agri Products Nepal has been organizing the market every Saturday since 2080 BS to promote and preserve the food diversity of Nepal as well as encourage Nepal to be self-sufficient in agricultural products.
Locally grown food products such as rice, maize, soya bean, millet, kiwi, honey, and dairy products, among others from over 50 districts are kept for sale in the market. Other products such as hats and bags made from organic threads are also sold in the market.
The market has been attracting some 700 visitors on average every Saturday thereby becoming a platform for the buyers and sellers for experience exchange, said Tilak Dhakal, Chairperson of the Raithane Agri Products Nepal.
