Kathmandu: Ranikot, which is located about 10 kilometers away from Suryavinayak, has become one of the popular hiking destinations within the Kathmandu Valley.

Ranikot and Kaverpalachowk located on Bhaktapur’s southern side are the border points of Bhaktapur and Lalitpur.

One can reach Ranikot via various routes viz: Doleshwor-Pati Bhanjyang and Suryavinayak-Ghyampe Danda from Bhaktapur, or Lakuri Bhanjyang-Batase Danda from Lalitpur.

Ranikot, located at an altitude of 2,782 meters above sea level, is popular as a short but pleasant hiking destination. People can also witness several mountain ranges including Annapurna mountain and Gaurishankar mountain from Ranikot.

Likewise, Ranikot also has its historical significance. It was one of the important forts in Kathmandu Valley, which was used to protect the Bhaktpaur and its surrounding areas.
