Rabi Lamichhane presented in Court for extending remand

Kathmandu: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairperson Rabi Lamichhane, arrested on charges of misappropriation of cooperative funds, has been presented in court again.

Suraj Adhikari, the court’s information officer, informed Nepal Views that Chairperson Lamichhane was brought before the Kaski District Court after 10 a.m. on Sunday.

The 13-day remand previously granted for investigation into cooperative fraud, property misappropriation, and organized crime charges ended on Friday. Consequently, Lamichhane was presented in the Kaski District Court for a fifth remand extension.

After the extension, the Kaski District Police Office stated it would continue investigating Lamichhane, a former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister.

Arrest warrants have also been issued against Lamichhane from Kathmandu and Chitwan. Following the remand’s extension, preparations are underway to transfer him to Kathmandu and Chitwan in sequence for further proceedings.

Former Deputy Inspector General of Police Chhabilal Joshi, who had an arrest warrant issued for misappropriating funds from the Swarnalakshmi Multipurpose Cooperative Institution in Kalimati, Kathmandu, has already been taken to Kathmandu for his statement.

Lamichhane, who was arrested in Kathmandu on November 2 for investigating the cooperative fraud case, is currently in custody under Kaski Police.
