Recommendation to send 285 prisoners on parole

According to Suryaraj Dahal, Joint Attorney at the Office of the Attorney General, a convict who has been sentenced to imprisonment for more than a year, has served more than two-thirds of the prison sentence, and has good conduct can be placed on parole.

Recommendation to send 285 prisoners on parole

Kathmandu: The Federal Probation and Parole Board meeting on Friday has recommended sending 285 prisoners on parole. The meeting was presided over by Attorney General Ramesh Badal, who made the recommendation per the proposal submitted to the Board by the Department of Prison Management.

According to Suryaraj Dahal, Joint Attorney at the Office of the Attorney General, a convict who has been sentenced to imprisonment for more than a year, has served more than two-thirds of the prison sentence, and has good conduct can be placed on parole.

This was meant to keep prisoners with good conduct on parole under Section 38 of the Criminal Offenses (Determination and Execution of Punishment) Act 2074 BS.

The Act however prohibits the parole of those who have been sentenced to life imprisonment, corruption, extortion, human trafficking and smuggling, organized crime, money laundering, torture or cruel treatment, crimes against humanity, and crimes against the state.
