18 Years of Comprehensive Peace Agreement: Chairperson Dahal remembers Girija 

Kathmandu: Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ has commemorated the 18th anniversary of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement by remembering the late Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala.

Posting a video message on Wednesday, Chairperson Dahal expressed gratitude to the late Koirala, who was also the then-president of the Nepali Congress, along with everyone for cooperating in the peace process.

‘Today marks the historic day when the Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed. I extend heartfelt thanks to the late leader Girija Prasad Koirala and all those who contributed to the process,’ Chairperson Dahal said in the video message.

Chairperson Dahal, also the former Prime Minister, called on everyone to move forward with cooperation and unity to conclude the remaining tasks of the peace process and build a prosperous nation. ‘I earnestly appeal to everyone to advance with cooperation and unity to complete the remaining tasks of the peace process and build a prosperous nation,’ he added.

The Comprehensive Peace Agreement ended the 10-year-long armed conflict in the country 18 years ago. The armed struggle led by the then CPN (Maoist) was spearheaded by Prachanda.

The then-Prime Minister Koirala and Maoist Chairperson Dahal signed the agreement, comprising 12 points, for the transition of the decade-long armed conflict into a peaceful journey on November 21, 2006 (Mangsir 5, 2063 BS).
