Kathmandu: The final rites of House of Representatives (HoR)’s Former Speaker Daman Nath Dhungana have been performed with state honors at Pashupati Aryaghat.

A contingent of the Nepali Army offered a 17-canon funeral salute in honor of the late Dhungana. His son lit the funeral pyre.

Hundreds of people were part of the procession to pay tribute to Dhungana on Monday.

Leaders of various political parties leaders, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Urban Development Prakash Man Singh, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar, and National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal also paid tribute.

The final procession began from Sano Gaucharan, Gyaneshwor. People also paid tribute to him at Sano Gaucharan.

Former Speaker Dhungana, who had been undergoing treatment for liver-related issues for some time, passed away at the age of 83 on Sunday afternoon at Frontline Hospital in Baneshwar. According to his family, after paying tribute, he will be cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat.

Likewise, a cabinet meeting, which was held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, decided to give a public holiday.
