Kathmandu: Devotees have been observing the main day of Chhath by offering Argha to the setting sun.

The festival is celebrated from Kartik Shukla Chaturthi to Saptami, where the devotees offer prayer to the Sun God. This year, Chhath, began on Tuesday.

According to the Hindu Scripture Mahabharata, when 5 Pandavas and Draupadi were in Agyatbas (secretly hiding before the completion of the forest exile), they worshipped the Sun God for the success of their Agyatbas. Pandavas were staying in the palace of King Virat at that time.

And people believe the tradition of celebrating Chhath began from that time as per the folk tales. People are celebrating Chhath in various parts of the Terai region.

Devotees are also celebrating Chhath with great fanfare even in different parts of Kathmandu. President Ram Chandra Paudel also reached Guhyeshwari to observe Chhath Puja.
