Kathmandu: There is a tradition of celebrating Dhanvantari Jayanti i.e. Dhanteras, on the day of Trayodashi Kartik Krishna Pakshya, as per the eastern panchanga.

Hindu devotees celebrated the birth anniversary of Dhanvantari, the founder of Ayurveda, and Kubera, the god of wealth. On the day of Dhanteras, people tend to buy new utensils and gold and silver jewelry. This day is considered the best and most auspicious day for Tihar shopping.

Likewise, there is a religious belief that if people perform the Laxmi Puja, on the purchased materials on Dhanteras, then the Goddess Laxmi would be happy and bless the house with wealth.

According to religious belief, bringing an idol of the Goddess of wealth Laxmi, and the God Ganesh in the home on the day of Dhanteras is considered to be auspicious.
