Kathmandu: The second biggest festival Tihar, also known as Deepawali, is approaching.

This has made the schedules of Potters hectic. Potters, belonging to the ‘Kumha’ Community in Bolachhen, can be seen busy making clay pots

They have been continuing the legacy of their ancestors, by indulging in the pottery business. The place has also been named ‘Pottery Square’ due to the dominance of the people doing pottery business.

Potters are busy making clay lamps (Pala), clay pots, and clay utensils for the approaching Tihar. This is the peak time for making clay lamps. There is a high demand for clay lamps in Tihar.

People can be seen installing electric lights to decorate their houses during Tihar. However, the significance of lighting the traditional clay lamp is still alive.

Ordinary clay lamps (Pala) are sold at 40 rupees per dozen, and decorated clay lamps are sold at 20 rupees per piece.
