Kathmandu: Gundu in Suryavinayak Municipality -7 is considered a pocket area for the Globe Amaranth (Makhamali) of Kathmandu Valley. The scientific name of the Globe flower is Gomphrena globosa.
Farmers started plucking the flowers to weave garlands of Globe flowers, before the arrival of Tihar. Farmers are busy plucking flowers every morning and weaving garlands in the afternoon.

The garland of the Globe is taken as a symbol of long life. Sisters offer the garland of Globe to their brothers, praying for their long lives, in Bhai Tika of Tihar.
The farmers of Gundu are selling the garland between 20 rupees and 50 rupees, as per the size.
