Kathmandu: Devotees have gathered to worship at Tulja (Taleju) Bhawani Temple.

Devotees are lined up at the Temple on Friday morning. The temple, on Hanumandhoka Durbar premises, is open to the public only once a year i.e. on Mahanavami. Tulja Bhawani is worshipped as Sakshat Devi.

According to ancient scriptures, King Pratap Malla of Kantipur used to play dice with Tulja Bhawani. The Malla Kings worshiped Tulja Bhawani as their Kuldevi.

Likewise, on the day of Fulpati, Tulja Bhawani is placed at Mulchowk, Hanumandhoka Durbar.

On the day of Vijaya Dashami, the Goddess will be taken back to the temple. After performing Kalaratri Puja on the night of Mahaashtami at Mulchowk, 54 goats, and 54 buffaloes are sacrificed.
