Demonstration against Supreme Court’s decision regarding river standards (Photo Feature)

Kathmandu: The stakeholders have protested against the decision of the Supreme Court to restrict the construction work within an additional 20 meters from the banks of the main rivers (Bagmati, Bishnumati, and Manohora).

The demonstrators protested at Maitighar on Thursday. The Supreme Court’s decision outraged the residents living near the river banks and land owners.

It has been predicted that around 8, 300 houses near the river banks would be affected, including affecting around 30 thousand ropani land, from the decision.

Likewise, the government has also vacated the decision of the Supreme Court. The decision of the Supreme Court does not allow the construction of new structures up to an additional 20 meters from the river bank.
