Kathmandu: The construction of model headquarters in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) has been in limbo.
The work could not progress when the trees in Kawasoti municipality-3 of the district where the model headquarters is to be constructed have not been removed.
Office Engineer Drona Katwal said the Urban Development and Building Construction Project Office Chitwan has been entrusted to complete the project. The office is waiting for the order to cut down the trees before going ahead with the construction.
A total of 184 bighas of land has been acquired by the government for the construction of Nawalpur district headquarters. The foundation stone of the model headquarters was laid in 2076 BS with a plan to construct all the offices of the federal and provincial governments on the land.
After six years of laying the foundation stone, the construction of the building has started. In the first phase, the construction work of the District Administration Office and two other buildings is underway for 800 million rupees. Chaudhary Construction Rautahat has been selected for this work, it is informed.
The Urban Development and Building Construction Project Office, Chitwan, is preparing to carry out the construction of model headquarters on site this month. But as the construction process began, the order to cut down the trees here has not yet been received.
He said the construction work could be affected if the order to cut trees is not issued. There are 642 trees including 552 big and 90 small trees at the construction site of the model headquarters.
Basanta Keshav Adhikari, chief of the Division Forest Office, Nawalpur, said that the process of removing trees at the construction site of the model district headquarters has been forwarded as per the standards. He said that the file has reached the Ministry of Forest and Environment with all the documents for the necessary decision.
After the ministry’s decision, the process to cut down trees would proceed. Katwal said that it would be easier to proceed with the work as soon as the Ministry of Forest and Environment decides that effect.
