Kathmandu: The Chitwan National Park (CNP) has arrested 34 persons who went at large for allegedly involved in rhino poaching.
This is so far the biggest arrest of poachers allegedly involved in the poaching of a one-horned rhino in a year. Last year, the national park held six people on the charge of poaching pangolin skin. Those accused of killing two rhinos in a trap were arrested within nine days.
Chief Conservation Officer Dil Bahadur Purja Pun said, ‘We achieved remarkable success in the field of conservation last year, The arrest of a large number of poachers is a noticeable achievement’ said Pun. He further said, ‘We were able to arrest the accused of poaching two rhinos in the Sattarchuli area’.
Likewise, six people were also arrested for poaching pangolin skin. In recognition of the contributions of the CNP officials to conservation, Basantraj Mishra Foundation honored them with Rs 300,000. CNP officials including, Dil Bahadur Purja Pun, Divesh Shrestha, and Prem Sharma, and an employee of Ghariyal Fertility Centre were honored with cash.
