Scrub typhus patients reach 70 in Makwanpur

Kathmandu: Scrub typhus patients have increased in the Makwanpur district of late. Since the beginning of August, the patients of scrub typhus, which appears intermittently in Makwanpur, have started to appear in large numbers recently.

Head of the District Public Health Office Krishna Bahadur Mijar said the number of scrub typhus patients in Makwanpur has reached 70 since last July.

Like dengue infection, most scrub typhus patients have been found in the Hetauda sub-metropolitan city. Mijar said that 39 scrub typhus patients were found in Hetauda sub-metropolitan city.

Similarly, nine scrub typhus cases were found in Makwanpurgadhi, six in Manhari Rural Municipality, seven in Bakaiya Rural Municipality, four in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality, one each in Bagmati Rural Municipality, Kailash Rural Municipality, and Raksirang Rural Municipality.

Chief Mijar urged people to take precautions as scrub typhus can be caused by the bite of a mouse mite. Likewise, the number of dengue-infected people has been increasing in Makwanpur in the last month. Since mid-July, 143 dengue-infected people have been found in Makwanpur district.
