Kathmandu: It has been confirmed that the flood in Thame River, in Khumbu Pasanglhamu rural municipality-5, was due to the bursting of a glacial lake. The rural municipality confirmed the bursting of the glacial lake.

The inspection from the helicopter, which was conducted on Saturday morning, revealed that the bursting of two glacial lakes resulted in the flood.

The rural municipality posted the inspection of the site from a helicopter. Out of 5 glacial lakes, located in the upper region of Thame, 2 bursted.

The flood swept away 20 houses and lodges, a health post, and a school in Khumbu Pasanglhamu rural municipality, ward no.5.

The powerhouse of the local power project was completely damaged while 200 meters of a trekking route from Phakding to Namche Jame area has been washed away.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Dwarika Prasad Ghimire shared that Nepal Army and Nepal Police personnel were deployed for rescue and relief to the flood-affected and survivors.

So far, 93 people have been rescued from the flood-affected areas and provided shelter in an army camp while 42 people are taking shelter in a local community building. Police relocated five families of Mapyadudhkosi Rural Municipality-6.
