Kathmandu: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balendra Shah has said the pothole in the road section connecting Durbarmarg and Kamaladi is above the Tukucha River.
Mayor Shah made those statements while posting the video of the pothole in front of the KMC Offices on social media. This affected the vehicular movement on the road on Thursday night.
Likewise, Mayor Shah said the letter has been sent to the relevant Ministry to deduct the land tax per the law of land that was mistakenly acquired in the name of a specific person with the jurisdiction of Tukucha River.
Mayor Shah wrote, ‘The road is above in Tukucha river. Some houses are also above the Tukucha River. KMC saw the same risk and began the work of opening the culvert to open the river. But had to stop due to the court proceedings.’
He further wrote, ‘The government needs to create an environment to hand over the rights of the river to the river by giving compensation to the respective people. Then, KMC will immediately begin work of opening the river.’
Mayor Balen said that people should construct bridges over the river as per their needs but not houses or roads above the rivers.
