Kathmandu: Hindu devotees have been gathered at Kumbheshwar Mahadev Temple, Patan.

According to Hindu devotees, the month of Shrawan is considered Lord Shiva’s favorite month and Monday’s favorite day. Especially women during the month of Shrawan visit various Shivalaya Temples to worship Lord Shiva.

Kumbheshwar Mahadev Temple, located in Patan, is one of the oldest temples in Nepal. Malla King Jayasthiti Malla built the temple in 1392 Bikram Sambat. The architecture of the temple is pagoda style; consisting of 5-storey.

Likewise, a big fair is held on the occasion of Shrawan Purnima, also known as Janai Purnima, which is called Kumbha Mela every year at Kumbheshwar temple. Based on the name of the fair, the temple was named Kumbheshwar Mahadev.

There is a belief that the holy water of Gasinkunda reaches the pond, which is located at the premises of the temple. Those who cannot go to Gosainkunda come to the temple to take a bath. People believe that a bath in the pond frees one from sins.
