Kathmandu: The Infrastructure Development Committee under the Federal Parliament has conducted an on-site inspection of the Nagdhunga Tunnel Construction Project.
Under the leadership of the Chairperson of the Committee, MP Deepak Singh, the monitoring team consisting of members of the committee, MPs, and Staff Members of the Secretariat took information about the progress of tunnel construction with the engineers and technicians on Thursday.
The tunnel route begins from Sisnekhola, Dhading passing through Kisipidi, Chandragiri Municipality and ending in Kathmandu has a length of 2.688 km.
Likewise, the project contract was signed with Ando Corporation Japan on 23 September 2019. The construction project due to various reasons was extended 3 times, which was supposed to be completed on April 26, 2023.
The construction side needs to complete the construction and submit the project report to the government by October 2025. There was an agreement between the Government of Nepal and the Government of Japan in the construction of the Nagdhunga tunnel on 22, December 2016.
Out of the total project cost of 22. 83 billion rupees, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide 17.15 billion through loan and the remaining 5.67 billion Government of Nepal will bear.
The amount received through loans will be spent on project construction, monitoring and supervision, whereas the amount received from the Government of Nepal was spent on compensation and social and administrative work.
