Home Ministry: National Identity Card not mandatory for Social Security Benefits

Kathmandu: The Ministry of Home Affairs has said a National Identity Card (NID) is not mandatory for those receiving social security allowance.

Changing its previous decision, the Ministry clarified about the NID not being mandatory.

Issuing letters to all 753 local levels, the Ministry of the Social Security Branch, under the Department of National ID and Civil Registration, conveyed the message for not seeking a National Identity Card immediately.

Mentioning the change in the decision made by the government on June 6 (Jestha 24), the ministry said NID is not mandatory for social security allowance. There was a huge criticism after NID was made mandatory for receiving social security.
