High alert issued after detection of Nipah virus in Kerala

Kathmandu: A high alert has been issued after the Nipah virus detected in Kerala, India.

The Health Officials issued an alert after the death of an 11-year-old child. The local government has appealed to people to mandatorily wear masks in public places and not to go to hospitals to meet with the patients.  It said that if people want to go to the hospital, they should take precautions.

According to the Ministry of Health and Women and Child Development, 60 people were found at high risk of the virus. Health Minister Veena George informed that those who came in contact with the deceased child have been isolated and tested.

Likewise, the World Health Organization (WHO) said that the Nipah virus is a’ Zoonotic virus’ transmitted to humans from pigs and bats. It has appealed to people to be cautious saying the virus can be epidemic.
