Locals obstruct in expansion of New Road’s footpath (Photo Feature)

Kathmandu: Locals have obstructed the expansion of the New Road Footpath resumed by Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC).

Local obstructed the KMC’s work of expanding the footpath on Friday. A huge number of officials from the Nepal Police, Metro Police, and Security Personnel have been deployed in the area after hundreds of locals demonstrated against the expansion of footpaths.

Likewise, KMC resumed the work of footpath expansion on Wednesday, after the High Court gave the verdict in favor of KMC. The locals have obstructed the KMC’s previous attempt to expand the footpath.

Earlier, the Division Road Office had intervened and re-pitched the road, which KMC demolished for the expansion of the footpath.  KMC filed the writ petition against the intervention of the Division of Road at Patan High Court.

The Court upon the writ hearing said that the urban roads would be under the local authority and gave an interim order not to stop the work of footpath expansion at New Road.
