PM Dahal fails to attain vote of confidence

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has failed to attain a vote of confidence.

PM Dahal was dismissed from the post after he failed to receive a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting on Friday.It was the fifth vote of confidence motion for PM Dahal in his recent tenure.

Out of 258, 63 Members of Parliament (MPs) voted in his favor, 194 MPs voted against him and 1 chose to remain neutral.

With the dismissal of PM Dahal, the door has been opened for the formation of a new government. The two big parties of the parliament, the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) have already agreed upon forming a new government. CPN(UML) Chairperson K.P. Sharma Oli will become the Prime Minister in the first stage as per the agreement.

There has been a different opinion from the constitutionalists regarding the exact article of the constitution for the formation of the new government. The government will be formed as per Article 76’s (2) or (93) of the Constitution of Nepal.

The Nepali Congress-CPN (UML) has collected two-thirds of a majority of the Members of Parliament (MPs). They are going to Sheetal Niwas to demand the formation of a new government as per 76 (2).
