Kathmandu: Nepal has failed to register a historical victory in the ICC Men’s T-20 World Cup.
Nepal lost the match against the Test-playing nation South Africa by 1 wicket, in the third match of the tournament. At one point, Nepal was on the verge of completing the target but was not able to stay firm during the concluding overs.
While chasing 116 runs, Nepal needed 8 runs in 6 balls to win the match at St. Vincent on Saturday. With the defeat, Nepal has lost the possibility of entering the Super 8. Now, Nepal will compete against Bangladesh in the last match of the group stage.
Nepal scored 99 runs with the loss of 3 wickets but added only 1 run to lose another 3 wickets. Gulshan Jha was run out in the last ball.
Opener Asif Sheikh drove Nepal to a strong innings by scoring 42 runs. Anil Shah scored 27 and Kushal Bhurtel 13 runs for the team.
The deadly balling of Kushal Bhurtel and Dipendra Singh Airee helped Nepal to leave a strong imprint on the opponent in the first innings. South Africa scored 115 runs with a loss of 7 wickets. Bhurtel took 4 and Airee took 3 wickets for Nepal.
