ICC T-20 World Cup: Nepal and Sri Lanka eyeing first victory

Kathmandu: The 9th edition of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20 World Cup is going on in the USA and West Indies.

The group-stage matches are going on. There is a different level of excitement for Nepali cricket followers as Nepal is playing its second T-20 World Cup tournament.

Nepal has been placed against South Africa, Bangladesh, Netherlands, and Sri Lanka in Group D in the tournament. Nepal has already played its 1st  match against the Netherlands. But faced 6 six-wicket defeats and is in the second-last position of the Group D points table.

Likewise, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands have already played their 2 games of the group stage.

South Africa succeeded in winning its 3 games. And is in the 1st position of the stage. Bangladesh also lost one game and won one. The team is in the second position.

The Netherlands registering one victory and one loss is in the 3rd place. Sri Lanka lost its 2 games and is at the bottom.

Now Nepal will be facing Sri Lanka on Wednesday. Both teams are looking forward to bagging their first victory in the match.

The match is not only significant for Nepal but also for Sri  Lanka. Nepal wants to defeat the test nation and make up for the previous defeat against the Netherlands.

Nepali cricket fans are excited for the match as Nepal will be facing the Test Nation. If Nepal beats Sri Lanka in the match then it will be a historical moment in the T-20 World Cup. And Nepal’s chance to qualify to enter the Super 8 round will be alive.

However, if Nepal fails to win the match then the team would be under pressure to qualify for the next stage, then Nepal would have to win the remaining two matches with a high net run rate and also have to depend upon the results of the remaining matches of the group stage.

Similarly, Sri Lanka also needs to win the remaining 2 matches against Nepal and Netherlands to make its chances of entering the Super-8.

Both teams are under pressure to win the match to keep their hopes for Super 8. Nepal will be facing against the first test nation in the T-20 World Cup history. So tomorrow’s match is the big day for both teams and each team does have exceptional players.

Nepal and Sri Lanka will compete against each other at 5:15 a.m. Nepal Standard Time.

The key players to watch in the Nepali national team are Kushal Bhurtel,  Aasif Sheikh, Dipendra Singh Airee, Karan KC, and  Sompal Kami.

Meanwhile, Pathum Nissanka Silva, Kusal Gimhan, Wanindu Hasaranga, Angelo Davis Mathews and Dasun Shanaka.
