MP Gokarana Raj Bista: Implementation of economic transformation challenging

Kathmandu: CPN (UML) Member of Parliament (MP) Gokarna Raj Bista said although the budget for the coming fiscal year has announced economic transformation, its implementation is going to be challenging.

Taking part in a discussion on annual estimates of revenue and expenditure for the fiscal year 2024/25 in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, MP Bista mentioned, ‘Is this a program of economic reforms to determine the journey of socialism-oriented journey? It should be cleared.’

‘Although agriculture investment decade, information technology decade and women investment year have been included in the budget, allocation of budget for such sector has decreased, which will create a challenge in achieving goals,’ he underlined.

He further said that the budget has become a failure to bring a plan for the operation of Gautam Buddha International Airport and Pokhara International Airport, which has increased suspicion.

Saying economic growth was not possible until an increase in investment in a production-oriented sector, former minister Bista shared that downsizing the customs tax rate by one level on direct tax rate or raw material of readymade goods was positive.
