Kathmandu: USA has won the first match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
USA defeated Canada by 7 wickets in the Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas on Sunday morning.
USA chased the target of 195 runs in 17.4 overs with a loss of 3 wickets. Aaron Jones and Andries Gous hit half-centuries for the team.
Aaron Jones was unbeaten at 94 runs. He smashed 94 runs out of 40 balls by hitting 4 boundaries and 10 sixes. Gous scored 65 runs out of 46 balls by hitting 7 boundaries and 3 sixes.
Kaleem Sana, Jeremy Gordon, and Nikhil Dutta scored 1-1 wickets for Canada.
In the first innings, Canada scored 194 runs in 20 overs with a loss of 5 wickets. Navneet Dhaliwal and Nicholas Kirton scored half-centuries for the team but failed to win the match.
Navneet scored 61 runs out of 44 balls. He scored 6 boundaries and 3 sixes. Nicholas scored 51 runs out of 43 balls by hitting 3 boundaries and 2 sixes.
Ali Khan, Harmeet Singh, and Corey Anderson took 1 wicket each for the USA.
With this, the USA has bagged 2 points in the Group A points table.
Now, the West Indies and Papua New Guinea (PNG) will compete against each other at 8:15 p.m. (NPT) today. The match will take place at Providence Stadium, Guyana.
